Sania Mirza’s campaign in the Wimbledon Championship ended on Friday as she crashed out in both women’s doubles and mixed doubles events.Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina bowed out of women’s doubles event after going down tamely to Czech Republic’s Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia in straight sets in the semifinals on Friday. Second seed Peschke and Srebotnik recorded a comfortable 6-3 6-1 win over the fourth-seed Indo-Russian duo in little over an hour. There was no stopping Peschke and Srebotnik, who had 79 per cent of their second serve in place as compared to Sania-Vesnina’s 38 per cent. Czech-Solvenia dominated the proceeding from the very beginning. After they took the first-set lead, it was just a stroll in the park for them in the second set. Just a couple of hours later Sania teamed up with Rohan Bopanna in the mixed doubles event. But there was no change in fortunes for Sania. The Indian pair lost to Aussie- Chinese Taipei pair of Paul Hanley and Su-Wei Hsei 6-1, 2-6, 2-6. |
